History

Two residential neighborhoods within the City of Enid are designated as historic preservation districts:  Kenwood Historic District and Waverly Historic District. Both districts are replete with the popular housing styles of the late19th and early 20th centuries. The styles represent design trends that span the initial period of settlement, to Enid's ealry prominence as an agricultural and commercial center at the turnof the century, to the heady days of the oil boom in the 1910's & 1930's, and the Great Depression of the 1930's. Homes in the two historic districts are spacious, comfortable, affordable, and offer turn-of-the-century embellishments such as wide-front porches, stained-glass windows, hardwood floors, and clawfoot tubs. A walking-tour brochure of both districts is available through the City of Enid Plans Office. Both districts have active neighborhood associations and neighborhood-watch programs.
