Holiday forecast: Icy, thanks to a new outdoor Ice Rink in downtown Enid

An estimated 15,000 visitors will enjoy Enid’s first outdoor ice rink throughout this holiday season.

As title sponsors, Jiffy Trip and Williams Media Group (My Country 103.1 and Talk 100.9 KGWA) are joining Main Street Enid, the Stride Bank Center and Visit Enid in bringing an outdoor ice rink to downtown Enid. It will be located at 400 S Independence in the parking lot between the Stride Bank Center and the art installation Under Her Wing was the Universe. Opening Day is November 20, 2020 and the rink will be open through January 3, 2021

Main Street Enid executive director Natalie Beurlot says they have a contract with Oklahoma City-based Express Ice to install the 75-foot by 45-foot rink. Express Ice has other ice rinks in Edmond, Chickasha, Bartlesville, Stillwater and Broken Arrow.

“This is something we’ve been working on for almost a year,” Beurlot said. “We anticipate seeing visitors from all around the region bringing more traffic to our downtown restaurants and retailers during the holiday season.”

Operating hours will be 3 pm-9 pm Monday through Thursday, 3 pm-11 pm Friday, 12 pm-11 pm Saturday and 12 pm-9 pm Sunday. Special hours during Thanksgiving break and Christmas break will be announced at a later time.

Single day tickets will be $12 for general admission, which includes skate rental. A $60 Season Pass and special group and holiday party rates are also available. Tickets are available through the Stride Bank Center ticket outlets or on site. Stride Bank Center general manager Kevin Boryzcki adds the arena will provide concessions on site.

What is missing is the ice rink’s name, and that’s where you come in. Go to the rink’s website, SkateInEnid.com, and submit your best name for consideration. Deadline to enter is Friday, October 9 at 12 noon.

Visit Enid director Marcy Jarrett says it is exciting to see an ice rink coming to Enid.

“There’s something magical about ice skating during the holidays,” Jarrett said. “This will become another Enid holiday tradition that’s great for our residents and will bring people from outside Enid to downtown for shopping and dining during the Christmas season.”

Beurlot says sponsorship opportunities are available for business owners wanting to support the downtown ice rink.
